Travel report (Rito)

I had the opportunity to spend one week with Prof. Dieter Jaksch’s group at the University of Hamburg, thanks to the ASPIRE joint program between Japan and Germany on cold atom physics.

During this visit, I discussed with most members of the group and learned a great deal about quantum algorithms and related topics. Through the individual explanations and discussions with group members, I was able to deepen my understanding of both the hardware support for quantum computers and the practical aspects of feasible algorithms. Dieter pointed out areas for improvement in my research, and Dr. Schlawin introduced the latest research topics within the group. In particular, I received generous support from several postdoctoral researchers, not only in scientific discussions but also in adapting to daily life in Hamburg.

During the first two days, I received individual explanations from group members about their research topics and read related papers to confirm and deepen my understanding. On Wednesday, I gave a presentation on my own research and had an in-depth discussion with Dr. Mendez Cordoba, who showed strong interest in my work. In the remaining two days, I worked on extending my research based on the suggestions made during the presentation and explored methodological developments in the directions discussed with group members.

This visit was my second trip to Germany. As a result, I was already familiar with everyday activities such as shopping at supermarkets, which made my stay comfortable. I found Hamburg’s transportation network to be very convenient, with frequent trains and buses connecting all major areas.
Starting on Wednesday, several group members kindly took me out to dinner, allowing me to enjoy the city’s beautiful night scenery. Overall, it was a thoroughly enjoyable visit in a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere, with lively conversations and humor shared among the group’s diverse international members.

I look forward to continuing research collaborations with the members I had the opportunity to meet and discuss with during this visit. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Sylvain, Dieter, all members of the group, and the entire ASPIRE program for providing such a wonderful and meaningful experience that will greatly benefit my future research.
